Egg Plate - Vic Ash

The egg plate was made for a project that called for something that was akin to ‘Egg cups’. Instead of creating a regular egg cup, I really wanted to put my design stamp on this product. It is a simple, yet functional design. There is space for 2 eggs, or 1 egg and 1 shell depository, toasted sourdough, and possibly even a few slices of fruit and a teaspoon. I wanted to create something raw and minimal, but with a fun and nostalgic shape.

I made the egg plate with the intention of pushing it into production - possibly casting it using glazed ceramic. Below are some pictures of it in use, the making, and some sketches / CAD work.

I started this project with some rough sketching. Getting the idea onto paper, and experimenting with some different forms. The idea started and finished the same, there must be room for 2 eggs.

From these sketches, I went into CAD to create some models. I made some STL’s and sent them to be CNC milled. The prototypes were made using blue-foam. And the final piece was made using off-cuts found around the workshop and laminated together, it was Victorian Ash.
